सो उमेस मोहि पर अनुकूला। करिहिं कथा मुद मंगल मूला॥
सुमिरि सिवा सिव पाइ पसाऊ। बरनउँ रामचरित चित चाऊ॥
so umesa mohi para anukūlā, karihĩ kathā muda maṁgala mūlā |
sumiri sivā siva pāi pasāū, baranaũ rāmacarita cita cāū ||
English Rendering
May that Lord of Umā be favourable to me and make this telling the root of gladness and blessing. Remembering Śivā and Śiva, and having received their grace, I begin — with an eager heart — to describe the story of Rāma.

वे उमेश (शिवजी) मुझ पर अनुकूल हों — और इस कथा को आनन्द तथा मंगल का मूल बनाएँ। शिवा (पार्वती) और शिव का स्मरण करके, उनकी कृपा पाकर — प्रसन्न चित्त से मैं श्रीरामचरित का वर्णन करता हूँ।
