गुरु पद रज मृदु मंजुल अंजन। नयन अमिय दृग दोष बिभंजन॥
तेहि करि बिमल बिबेक बिलोचन। बरनउँ राम चरित भव मोचन॥
guru pada raja mṛdu maṁjula aṁjana, nayana amiya dṛga doṣa bibhaṁjana |
tehi kari bimala bibeka bilocana, baranaũ rāma carita bhava mocana ||
English Rendering
The dust of the guru’s foot is a soft, graceful collyrium — nectar for the eyes, destroyer of every defect of sight. Having made the eye of clear discernment pure with it, I begin to tell the story of Rāma, that story which itself sets one free from becoming.

गुरु के चरणों की धूलि मृदु, सुन्दर अंजन है — नेत्रों के लिए अमृत, दृष्टि-दोषों को नष्ट करने वाली। उसी से विवेक-रूपी नेत्रों को निर्मल करके मैं संसार-बन्धन से मुक्त करने वाले राम-चरित का वर्णन आरम्भ करता हूँ।
Context — Editorial
Chaupāī 2 opens with the guru’s foot-dust image once more — now as the collyrium that has cleared the eye of discernment (bibeka). Only after that preparation does Tulsīdās announce, for the first time in the poem, that he will now tell the story of Rāma.
