Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·21.1·152 of 166
samujhata sarisa nāma aru nāmī, prīti parasapara prabhu anugāmī |
nāma rūpa dui īsa upādhī, akatha anādi susāmujhi sādhī ||
English Rendering
Upon reflection, the Name and the Named are seen to be equal — their mutual love follows the Lord Himself. Name and Form are the two upādhis (attributes) of the Lord — inexpressible, beginningless, and grasped only by sound understanding.
Context — Editorial
The famous nāma-nāmī meditation begins. Tulsīdās now pauses the invocation to lay out a short philosophy of the Name — fifteen verses that constitute the single most important stretch of Rāma-nāma theology in the whole Manas.
