Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·7.2
so sudhāri harijana jimi lehīṁ, dali dukha doṣa bimala jasa dehīṁ |
khalau karahiṁ bhala pāi susaṁgū, miṭai na malina subhāu abhaṁgū ||
English Rendering
Just as those devoted to Hari take that (fault), set it right, crush its pain and its defect, and give back a pure repute. Even the wicked will do good if they come upon holy company — yet their unbreakable stained nature is not itself erased.
Context — Editorial
A precise balance to Chaupāī 5.5–D.5. Earlier: even good people slip. Here: even wicked people, in holy company, do good. But the deeper natures remain — the saint’s slip is repaired, the villain’s virtue is provisional. Tulsīdās refuses to pretend character can be changed by circumstance alone.
