सब गुन रहित कुकबि कृत बानी। राम नाम जस अंकित जानी॥
सादर कहहिं सुनहिं बुध ताही। मधुकर सरिस संत गुनग्राही॥
saba guna rahita kukabi kṛta bānī, rāma nāma jasa aṁkita jānī |
sādara kahahiṁ sunahiṁ budha tāhī, madhukara sarisa saṁta gunagrāhī ||
English Rendering
Even the speech of a bad poet, empty of every merit, is respectfully spoken and heard by the wise — the moment they see that it is marked with the glory of Rāma’s name. Saints, like bees, take only the honey.
हिन्दी अनुवाद
कुकवि की रची — सब गुणों से रहित — वाणी को भी, जब सज्जन देखते हैं कि उसमें श्रीराम-नाम का यश अंकित है, वे उसे आदरपूर्वक कहते और सुनते हैं। सन्त मधुकर (भ्रमर) के समान होते हैं — केवल गुण को ग्रहण करते हैं।
Context — Editorial
The bee is the classic Indian image of the discerning saint. It does not judge the flower by its outward form or its stem; it seeks only the nectar. So too, Tulsīdās argues, the good listener seeks only the name in whatever verse contains it.
