The story of Raghunātha, says Tulsī, brings every good thing and washes away the impurities of this Kali age. The path of this poor poetry has become the path of a purifying river through its subject. In the company of the Lord’s fair renown my composition will turn out fine — pleasing to the minds of the good. Even the ash of a cremation-ground, worn on Bhava’s (Śiva’s) body, becomes lovely and sanctifying when remembered.
The chhand — a stanza in a different metre — closes the whole argument. The example is the strongest available: cremation-ash, the most inauspicious of substances, becomes holy when worn by Śiva. If ash can become holy, so can this poem.
