बंचक भगत कहाइ राम के। किंकर कंचन कोह काम के॥
तिन्ह महँ प्रथम रेख जग मोरी। धींग धरमध्वज धंधक धोरी॥
baṁcaka bhagata kahāi rāma ke, kiṁkara kaṁcana koha kāma ke |
tinha mahã prathama rekhā jaga morī, dhīṁga dharamadhvaja dhaṁdhaka dhorī ||
English Rendering
Cheats, calling themselves devotees of Rāma, while in truth they are servants of gold, of anger, and of desire — in the world’s roll of such people, the first mark is mine. A bully; a flag-bearer of dharma without the substance; a chief in the guild of tricksters.

Context — Editorial
The single most severe self-accusation in the entire Manas. Tulsīdās names himself first in the class of pretenders — before he can be named there by anyone else. It is a manoeuvre of extraordinary humility, and it forecloses all mockery of the poet before it begins.
