कबि न होउँ नहिं चतुर कहावउँ। मति अनुरूप राम गुन गावउँ॥
कहँ रघुपति के चरित अपारा। कहँ मति मोरि निरत संसारा॥
kabi na hoũ nahiṁ catura kahāvaũ, mati anurūpa rāma guna gāvaũ |
kahã raghupati ke carita apārā, kahã mati mori nirata saṁsārā ||
English Rendering
I am no poet, nor do I let myself be called clever; I sing Rāma’s virtues only as my understanding allows. Where the boundless deeds of Raghupati stand — and where stands my mind, still absorbed in the world.

मैं कवि नहीं हूँ और न ही चतुर कहलाऊँगा; अपनी बुद्धि के अनुरूप ही श्रीराम के गुण गाऊँगा। कहाँ श्रीरघुपति के अपार चरित — और कहाँ संसार में रमी हुई मेरी बुद्धि!
