कीरति भनिति भूति भलि सोई। सुरसरि सम सब कहँ हित होई॥
राम सुकीरति भनिति भदेसा। असमंजस अस मोहि अँदेसा॥
kīrati bhaniti bhūti bhali soī, surasari sama saba kahã hita hoī |
rāma sukīrati bhaniti bhadesā, asamaṁjasa asa mohi ãdesā ||
English Rendering
That fame, that composition, that wealth alone is good which, like the Gaṅgā, brings benefit to all. But the pure renown of Rāma set in my rustic verse — this mismatch is what troubles me.

वही कीर्ति, वही रचना, वही सम्पत्ति भली है जो सुरसरि (गंगा) की भाँति सबके लिए हितकारी हो। पर श्रीराम की परम सुकीर्ति और मेरी भद्दी भाषा — इस असमंजस से मैं आशंकित हूँ।
