बंदउँ लछिमन पद जलजाता। सीतल सुभग भगत सुख दाता॥
रघुपति कीरति बिमल पताका। दंड समान भयउ जस जाका॥
baṁdaũ lachimana pada jalajātā, sītala subhaga bhagata sukha dātā |
raghupati kīrati bimala patākā, daṁḍa samāna bhayau jasa jākā ||
English Rendering
I bow to the lotus feet of Lakṣmaṇa — cool, lovely, and giver of happiness to devotees. His fame became the flag-staff of Raghupati’s spotless banner.
हिन्दी अनुवाद
लक्ष्मण के जलजात (कमल) पद-कमलों की वन्दना करता हूँ — शीतल, सुभग, भक्तों को सुख देने वाले। श्रीरघुपति की निर्मल कीर्ति-पताका के — मानो दण्ड (झण्डे के डंडे) समान उनका यश हो गया।
Context — Editorial
The image is exact. Rāma’s fame is the flag; Lakṣmaṇa’s fame is the pole. The flag flies only because the pole is straight. The vandanā of the second brother is done without ever quite saying "second."
