Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·18.4·139 of 151
English Rendering
Janaka’s daughter, mother of the world, Jānakī — dearest of all to the treasury of compassion. I invoke both of her lotus feet — by whose grace I may yet obtain a pure intellect.
Context — Editorial
The exact request already made to Sarasvatī, Śiva, and other agents earlier in the invocation — bimala mati, pure intellect — is now made to Sītā. She is asked not for glory or safety, but for the one thing the poet has confessed he lacks. It is a moment of great softness.
