बंदउँ नाम राम रघुवर को। हेतु कृसानु भानु हिमकर को॥
बिधि हरि हरमय बेद प्रान सो। अगुन अनूपम गुन निधान सो॥
baṁdaũ nāma rāma raghuvara ko, hetu kṛsānu bhānu himakara ko |
bidhi hari haramaya beda prāna so, aguna anūpama guna nidhāna so ||
English Rendering
I bow to the Name of Rāma, the Raghu-chief — the very cause of Agni, Sūrya, and Chandra. It is the life-breath of the Veda, made of Brahmā, Hari, and Hara; without attributes, without comparison — and yet the storehouse of every virtue.

श्रीराम-रघुवर के नाम को मैं प्रणाम करता हूँ — जो अग्नि, सूर्य और चन्द्रमा का कारण है। जो वेदों का प्राण है, ब्रह्मा-विष्णु-शिवमय है; निर्गुण, अनुपम — तथापि समस्त गुणों का निधान है।

The great Name-vandanā begins. In classical exegesis, the three syllables of RĀM are seed-mantras of the three fires — sun, moon, and terrestrial fire — the three light-bearing agents that let the world be seen at all. Tulsīdās quietly points to that.
