nāma rūpa gati akatha kahānī, samujhata sukhada na parati bakhānī |
aguna saguna bica nāma susākhī, ubhaya prabodhaka catura dubhāṣī ||
English Rendering
The relation of Name and Form is an inexpressible tale — delightful to understand, impossible to fully set down. Between the attributeless and the attributed, the Name stands as a true witness — a skilled interpreter who awakens both.
Context — Editorial
The image of the Name as a dubhāṣiyā — a court interpreter — is one of the Manas’s most elegant. Nirguṇa and saguṇa cannot speak directly to each other; the Name translates between them, in both directions, without losing any meaning.
