Place the jewel-lamp of Rāma’s Name upon the threshold of your tongue, O Tulsī — if you want light both within and without.
Context — Editorial
One of the most-quoted dohās of the entire Manas. The old Indian doorway lamp sat on the threshold so that both the inner room and the outer street got the same light. The Name, Tulsīdās says, placed on the tongue, works exactly this way: one lamp, two sides of a doorway, both lit.
