Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·23.2·163 of 166
proṛhi sujana jani jānahĩ jana kī, kahaũ pratīti prīti ruci mana kī |
eku dārugata dekhia ekū, pāvaka sama juga brahma bibekū ||
English Rendering
Let the mature wise not think this the boast of a devotee — I speak only the conviction, the love, and the inclination of my heart. One is seen inside the wood; the other, like fire — the two Brahmans are known by this discernment.
Context — Editorial
The classical fire-in-wood image makes its finest appearance. Nirguṇa Brahman is the latent fire inside the log; saguṇa Brahman is the flame on the stick. The Name is what strikes one from the other.
