Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·3.6
bidhi hari hara kabi kobida bānī, kahata sādhu mahimā sakucānī |
so mo sana kahi jāta na kaise, sāka banika mani gana guna jaise ||
English Rendering
Brahmā, Hari and Hara — the poets, the scholars, even Sarasvatī herself — all stand shy when they set out to speak the greatness of the good. How then could such a thing be told by me? — as much as a vegetable-vendor could speak of the qualities of jewels.
Context — Editorial
The great chaupāī on satsanga closes with self-deprecation as sharp as its opening was expansive. The image is precise: a saag-seller trying to appraise a diamond. Tulsīdās has said what he wanted; he now steps aside.
