Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·4.1
bhaye pragaṭa kṛpālā dīnadayālā, kausalyā hitakārī |
haraṣita mahatārī muni mana hārī, adbhuta rūpa bicārī ||
English rendering
The compassionate one, kind to the afflicted, has appeared — the very kinsman of Kauśalyā’s heart. The mother is joyful; the sages’ minds are stolen by that wonderful form; one can only look, and consider.
Context — editorial
The moment of Rāma’s birth, sung in the mother Kauśalyā’s presence. Tulsīdās does not describe the birth clinically. He describes it as one describes an unexpected sunrise — a form so extraordinary that even sages, trained to be unmoved, lose their minds to it.
