मैं अपनी दिसि कीन्ह निहोरा। तिन्ह निज ओर न लाउब भोरा॥
बायस पालिय अति अनुरागा। होहिं निरामिष कबहुँ कि कागा॥
maiṁ apanī disi kīnha nihorā, tinha nija ora na lāuba bhorā |
bāyasa pāliya ati anurāgā, hohiṁ nirāmiṣa kabahuṁ ki kāgā ||
English Rendering
From my side, I have done what courtesy asks. From theirs, they will never for a moment turn towards me. Rear a crow with the utmost love — will it ever, on that account, give up eating flesh?

मैंने अपनी ओर से (शिष्टाचार के अनुसार) विनती कर ली है; परन्तु वे अपनी ओर से कभी झूठ भी नहीं बदलेंगे। कौवे को कितने ही प्रेम से पालो — क्या वह कभी माँस खाना छोड़ देगा?
