Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·5.1
maṅgala bhavana amaṅgala hārī | dravau so dasaratha ajira bihārī ||
English rendering

Abode of all auspiciousness, remover of every inauspicious thing — may he, who once played in Daśaratha’s courtyard, take pity on me.

Context — editorial

A single sentence that has become a household blessing across the Hindi-speaking world for four hundred years. The image is very specific: Rāma is not on the throne, not in the forest, not in battle. He is a child, playing in his father’s courtyard. That is the form Tulsīdās asks to remember him in.
