Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·5.3
upajahiṁ eka saṁga jaga māhīṁ, jalaja joṁka jimi guna bilagāhīṁ | sudhā surā sama sādhu asādhū, janaka eka jaga jaladhi agādhū ||
English Rendering

Both are born together in this world — as the lotus and the leech, both rising from the same water, are yet marked out by their qualities. Saints and the wicked are like nectar and wine; the world is one unfathomable ocean, and their father is the same.

Context — Editorial

The comparison is exact. Both saint and villain come from the same source, in the same instant; nothing in the origin distinguishes them. The distinction, Tulsīdās says, is in what each does with that same water.
