Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·6.1
खल अघ अगुन साधु गुन गाहा। उभय अपार उदधि अवगाहा॥
तेहि तें कछु गुन दोष बखाने। संग्रह त्याग न बिनु पहिचाने॥
khala agha aguna sādhu guna gāhā, ubhaya apāra udadhi avagāhā |
tehi teṁ kachu guna doṣa bakhāne, saṁgraha tyāga na binu pahicāne ||
English Rendering
The sins and defects of the wicked, and the virtues of the good — both are oceans, unfathomable and without end. That is why some qualities and some flaws must at least be named: without recognition, there can be no keeping and no letting-go.

खलों के पाप-अवगुण और साधुओं के गुण — दोनों अपार, अगाध समुद्र हैं। इसीलिए कुछ गुण-दोषों का वर्णन किया गया है; क्योंकि बिना पहचान के न ग्रहण होता है, न त्याग।
Context — Editorial
A moment of practical philosophy. If both good and evil are infinite, we cannot describe them fully — but we must describe them at least a little, otherwise how would anyone know what to keep and what to leave? The Manas justifies its own long invocations here.
