भलेउ पोच सब बिधि उपजाए। गनि गुन दोष बेद बिलगाए॥
कहहिं बेद इतिहास पुराना। बिधि प्रपंच गुन अवगुन साना॥
bhaleu poca saba bidhi upajāe, gani guna doṣa beda bilagāe |
kahahiṁ beda itihāsa purānā, bidhi prapaṁca guna avaguna sānā ||
English Rendering
The good and the wicked — both are the making of the Creator. It was the Vedas that, weighing quality and flaw, made the two into separate categories. Vedas, epics and Purāṇas all say it: the Creator’s cosmos is mixed of quality and defect together.

Context — Editorial
A theologically bold line. Tulsīdās refuses to blame evil on some other force; it too is the Creator’s making. The Vedas do not invent the categories — they only sort a mixture that was there from the beginning.
