Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·7.5
gagana caṛhai raja pavana prasaṁgā, kīcahiṁ milai nīca jala saṁgā |
sādhu asādhu sadana suka sārī, sumirahiṁ rāma dehiṁ gani gārī ||
English Rendering
By the company of the wind, dust rises to the sky; by the company of low-lying water, it becomes mud. Kept in a saint’s house, a parrot and a mynah recite “Rāma”; kept in the wicked man’s house, they hurl one insult after another.
Context — Editorial
Two of Tulsīdās’s most beloved household images. Dust with wind rises; dust with water sinks. Parrots and mynahs — domestic pets — speak whatever they hear. The point is not moral censure but observation: a creature’s output is its input.
