Bāla Kāṇḍa·Chaupāī·9.2·72 of 104
kabita rasika na rāma pada nehū, tinha kahã sukhada hāsa rasa ehū |
bhāṣā bhaniti bhori mati morī, hãsibe joga hãseṁ nahiṁ khorī ||
English Rendering
Those who have no taste for poetry and no love for Rāma’s feet — for them, at least, this poem will provide the pleasure of laughter. My vernacular composition comes from a simple mind; it is fit to be laughed at, and there is no fault in laughing.
Context — Editorial
The mockery pivots. If the wicked have no love for Rāma and no ear for poetry, Tulsīdās quietly grants them permission to laugh — because laughter at his verse might be the closest thing to attention they can offer. He removes the sting from their mockery by welcoming it.
